Packing Tips

• Use high quality packing boxes designed especially for the job, not “grocery store” cartons.
• Packing supplies are available in the office.
• Pack books and other heavy objects in smaller boxes for easier lifting.
• When there is a need to pack clothes, use wardrobe boxes available on site so the clothes can be hung for safer storage.
• Use the same size boxes for easy stacking.
• Fill boxes completely, stuff open areas with plain newsprint to prevent collapsing when the boxes are stacked.
• Seal boxes completely with packing tape to prevent dust from settling on contents.

Storage Space Usage Tips

• Store couches (except sofa beds) on the end to maximize use ofspace.
• Protect mattresses and furniture with pads and covers.
• Wrap mirrors and pictures with paper pads or use mirror boxes.
• Do not store mirrors and pictures flat; they are fragile and require special attention.
• Label all boxes on several sides for easy identification when access is needed.
• Disassemble tables and shelves and store on their sides.
• Wrap and mark all pieces for easier re-assembly.
• Seal boxes completely with packing tape to keep dust out and pack snugly to prevent collapsing when stacked.
• Leave a center aisle for easier access to all stored items.
• Use free-standing shelving when possible, to maximize the storage space.
• Store items that are more frequently needed in front of unit.
• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors slightly ajar and clean before storing. Don’t forget to use the available space inside for extra storage.
